Support yourself this year

Support yourself this year

We are now 20 days into the New Year and so over halfway through the first month of 2019 - how is it going for you so far?

I don't know about you but I've only had ten days 'back at work' and if I am honest, I am already bone tired. Like my bones have told me they are actually tired!

It's almost as if I didn't have two full weeks off over the festive period lazing about, eating whatever was in front of me (often ignoring my allergies) and doing next to no exercise....

Choose yourself πŸ’—

Choose yourself πŸ’—

Choose yourself. (This was shared via the Less Ordinary newsletter on 24th December 2018)

It's Christmas Eve. Whether or not you are participating in all the festivities that accompany this time of year, December can be very challenging.

Its not all joy and cheer and peace and happy-clappy family time (though social media might have you thinking differently - remember on here are the best highlights - the outtakes and bloopers rarely make the cut!) β€¦

It's ok to ask for help.

It's ok to ask for help.

I am at the tail end of what has been quite a mean chest infection. It crept up on me after the fabulous Celebrate Life party (our Less Ordinary annual alternative to the company xmas do!) last Tuesday. I ignored it for a bit and then BAM last Thursday morning, after one too many late nights, it hit me square in my chest. As an asthmatic, this is never fun….

Let's get creative.

Let's get creative.

December is finally here! As are the non-stop xmas carols, bright white lights and red, gold & green decorations EVERYWHERE! Alongside lots and lots and lots of people (even more than usual) splashing through puddles and marching against the wind here in London town.…

It is time for you to speak your truth.

It is time for you to speak your truth.

Today I want to encourage you to speak your truth.

Maybe that means you looking in the mirror tonight and admitting to yourself what you are most scared of or worried about right now….

Perhaps it involves you having a heart-to-heart with a loved one or a colleague about something that is weighing heavy on your heart….

You are always in the process of becoming

You are always in the process of becoming

So who are you?

How many of us really think before answering this?

Many of us give the name that was given to us from birth. Maybe you give the name of what you do for a living.

But who are you deeply? What are you made up of? What are your core values?

What are those individual qualities within you that show the world who you really are?

Do you even show the world? Or do you feel the need to hide your true self away?

Is it time to start The Work?

Is it time to start The Work?

Maybe you can relate to this…

Last week started out so well. And then it got ugly. Pretty fast.

I had super productive Monday! I was up at 6AM, hot yoga, meditation, reading and journaling were all in the bag by 8AM.

Then I was at my desk like a productivity ninja and by lunch my to-do list didn't know what had hit him. A great coaching session with a new client and a drink with my dear neighbour Phil later and I was on cloud nine...

How's Life Treating You?

How's Life Treating You?

Would you say you skip through life? How many of us can say we sail through oh so jolly without a care in the world?

You might feel you spend more time tripping up on this journey we call life. Tripping up over humps that cross our paths with no warning and quite frankly they are not welcome!

What I am talking about here are life events that take a place in our lives uninvited and cause a disturbance.

You're invited to an end of year Pitstop!

You're invited to an end of year Pitstop!

As the days get longer and the nights grow colder there’s a truth that makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable – winter is here!

You can ignore this fact if you wish, but the likelihood is that if you carry on wearing summer clothes in this weather (like I did last week*) you’ll find yourself feeling rather cold.

Another truth which might make you feel uneasy is that the end of the year is edging closer and closer, in fact, there are now only 54 days until 2018 arrives! Whoa.

Is it me or does time seem to speed up for the last six months of the year?

Managing Your Expectations

Managing Your Expectations

When’s the last time you felt disappointed? You may have felt disappointment in yourself. It might have been that you felt disappointed in someone else? You might feel disappointment happens far too often. You may not even remember the last time you didn’t feel disappointed.

Β

Disappointment can lead to feeling demotivated. It can trigger a low mood and contribute to feeling low self esteem.

Heads, shoulders, knees and toes!

Heads, shoulders, knees and toes!

There was a simple, fun game that I remember playing as a young child called: β€˜Head, shoulders, knees and toes’. You’d sing the words and as you did you’d tap the body part you were singing about at exactly the same time. Eventually the song would pick up pace and you would be β€˜out’ as soon as you fell out of line with the singing or the body taps. The last person β€˜in’ would win...

Where's Your Head At?

Where's Your Head At?

The days are growing brighter, flowers are in bloom. But you might not be.

You might be feeling fatigue? You may have reduced interest and enjoyment in activities? Or reduced ability and difficulty concentrating? Or you might have alterations in eating or sleep patterns?

Sometimes you may not feel able to show up. You may not feel capable of being presentable. You may have days that you feel so low that you don’t even want to exit your bed. I’m not talking about a Monday morning here. After the weekend a lot of us would prefer to snuggle up under the covers! I’m talking about a deeper sadness.

What's in your mental health surthrival kit?

As we come to the end of mental health awareness week I am so glad that more open, honest conversations about mental health are happening online. And that more conversations are taking place offline, where they need to to really #endthestigma.

I had a rant on twitter earlier this week about the mental health challenges that exist socially and professionally...

Never Underestimate the power within you

Never Underestimate the power within you

Many dreams are not fulfilled because of fear. Does this ring true for you?

We all feel anxious at some time in our lives. This is a normal instinctual response that serves as a protection to aid our survival. It teaches us to avoid dangerous situations and in this way is a learning process. This works well in obvious circumstances like a mugging incident. Here it will produce our fight or flight mode. But sometimes the subconscious can work overtime. It will respond to situations that feel like an initial event that has made us feel anxious. In this way it distorts our belief system.

It's time for your 2017 Q1 review!

  It's time for your 2017 Q1 review!

I am great at planning. Always have been. I’m a dreamer and also a goal setter. I have big ideas and like to write them down and make a plan to get focused on how best to make it happen. I love to see an idea turn into something real and tangible, as quickly as possible (building this business is definitely teaching me to slow down though!)...

Today is the perfect day to back on the horse!

Today is the perfect day to back on the horse!

So, last week Wednesday was the day that BBC said they would get back to me if I got onto their Expert Women programme. Remember the cringey video pitch I shared a few weeks ago?

Well they didn't get back to me. I've checked my junk twice...defo nothing there I want to see.

This meant that last week I had a bit of an oh-no-I've-fallen-off-the-horse-again-how-embarrassing moment. AKA I told the internet I'd applied for this opportunity and then I didn't get it. OH GOD...
